Raul Romo and Sarah Tapia now National Board Certified Medical Interpreters!

Congratulations are in order to Raul Romo and Sarah Tapia who were both recently advised of their certification from the National Board of Certification for Medical Interpreters (NBCMI). This notable achievement reflects the strength of their personal commitment to quality and accuracy in the profession of interpreting, and demonstrates SWITS ongoing efforts as a language service provider, to supply the highest qualified interpreters available to every single client we serve.

Raul Romo serves as Lead Interpreter (Spanish<>English) for Southern Wisconsin Interpreting and Translations Services. Raul has been with SWITS for three years, and has demonstrated his formidable abilities across a range of facilities throughout the southern Wisconsin area, stretching from Milwaukee to Janesville.

Sarah Tapia is a court-certified (Spanish<>English) interpreter and has served in legal and medical systems throughout southern Wisconsin and northern Illinois. Sarah has been with SWITS for eight years, and for five of those years has served as head of the SWITS Translation Department, where she assures the quality translation across a broad variety of media.

The NBCMI is one of two associations who currently offer national certification within the United States. Raul and Sarah have both achieved the title “Certified Medical Interpreter” or “CMI” for which they completed both a written and an oral exam.

The Certification Commission for Healthcare Interpreters (CCHI) also offers a nationally recognized certification for healthcare interpreters. CCHI offers different options for interpreters depending on the language combination and the level of certification they seek. The written exam goes by the name of the Associate Healthcare Interpreter Examination or AHI, which is available in almost any language paired with English. The Certified Healthcare Interpreter Examination is available in Spanish, Arabic, and Mandarin.
