Description: Techniques of ASL expansion allow effective communication within medical settings. Demonstrations of the differences between ASL and English-influenced signing will be provided, as well as exercises in ASL expansion.

Educational Objectives:

  • Participants will practice specific interpreting skills related to medical settings.
  • Participants will analyze challenging medical interpreting situations, and devise strategies for these situations.
  • Participants will practice using updated signs in lieu of obsolete signs, with a focus on signing related to new technological developments.

About Trix Bruce

Trix has been involved in the performing arts since 1980 when she won the role of Helen Keller in her freshman year of high-school. She participated in the summer program hosted by the National Theatre of the Deaf (NTD) and performed at the National Technical Institute for the Deaf (NTID). As a deaf poet and actress, her performances draw heavily on her life experiences.Trix’s one-woman show has been a long-standing success.
